Englands Chris Oti runs out against Ireland - 1988 Five Nations

Rugby Union - 1988 Five Nations Championship - England 35 Ireland 3
Englands Chris Oti, who would scores three tries during the game, runs out at Twickenham.
Prior to this game England had scored just one try at Twickenham in the previous two years. They were trailing 0-3 at half-time, however they then ran in six second-half tries, and as Oti completed his hat-trick a group from the Benedictine Douai school began to sing their own first XV anthem, " Swing Low Sweet Chariot". It has remained a Twickenham and England rugby standard from that point on

EDITORS COMMENTS
This iconic print captures the electrifying moment when England's Chris Oti bursts onto the field during the 1988 Five Nations Championship match against Ireland. With determination in his eyes, Oti would go on to etch his name into rugby history by scoring an impressive hat-trick of tries. The significance of this game cannot be understated. Prior to this encounter, England had struggled to find their attacking prowess at Twickenham, managing only one try in two years. However, everything changed that day as a resurgent English side turned the tables on their opponents. Trailing 0-3 at half-time, England unleashed a relentless onslaught in the second half, running in six tries and leaving Ireland stunned. As Oti completed his third try, a group from Benedictine Douai school serenaded him with their own rendition of "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" which would become synonymous with both Twickenham and English rugby ever since. This Colorsport image beautifully encapsulates not only Oti's incredible performance but also the transformative nature of that game for English rugby. It serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and teamwork, reminding us all that even in moments of adversity, greatness can be achieved.
