The Police - on tour in America.
New York. January 1982. Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) doing a pogo jump on stage.
***note to editors - Mirrorpix have the venue as Radio City Hall, New York. We have also seen The Police played at Madison Square Garden on 22nd January 1982. The two venues are linked, and could be one and the same. The film was processed 25th January 1982, and so Mirrorpix will put 22nd January 1982 as the date, and stick with
Radio City Hall as the venue.***
The Police were a British rock band formed in London in 1977. The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging in the British new wave scene, they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. Aswell as five hit albums, including Outlandos d Amour and Reggatta de Blanc, they enjoyed global hit singles such as Roxanne, Message In A Bottle and Every Breath You Take. Band members were Stewart Copeland on drums, Sting (real name Gordon Sumner on lead vocals, bass, and the main songwriter) and Andy Summers on guitar. Henry Padovani was also their guitarist from January to August 1977, but left the band before they became famous.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures The Police, one of the most influential rock bands of their time, during their tour in America. Taken on January 22nd, 1982, in New York City (specifically believed to be either Radio City Hall or Madison Square Garden), the image showcases lead vocalist and bassist Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) mid-air as he executes a pogo jump on stage. Formed in London in 1977, The Police quickly gained global popularity with their unique blend of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. With five hit albums under their belt including "Outlandos d'Amour" and "Reggatta de Blanc" they produced chart-topping singles like "Roxanne" "Message In A Bottle" and the iconic "Every Breath You Take". The band consisted of three talented musicians: Stewart Copeland on drums, Sting as the frontman and main songwriter, and Andy Summers on guitar. Notably, Henry Padovani was also part of the group as guitarist from January to August 1977 before departing prior to their rise to fame. Photographed by Ron Burton for Memory Lane Prints and processed on January 25th that same year, this image serves as a nostalgic reminder of The Police's energetic performances during their American tour. It encapsulates both the raw energy that defined their live shows and Sting's charismatic stage presence that captivated audiences worldwide.
